Desctription

The striking feature of this print is the contrast between the white of the snow and the red of the building that is Zojo-ji temple still standing next to Tokyo Tower which attests to prosperity as the Tokugawa shogun’s family temple during the Edo period. The snow drifts quietly yet endlessly, covering both the temple roofs and boughs of a pine tree in left foreground, which bend with the snow weight. The woman in kimono folds her umbrella slightly against the snow-bearing wind as she passes the temple gate.
